Dinner time is when you would talk to the campers assigned to you about what they have been doing during the day. This is your time to catch up with them. After the meal, a campfire or some other activity will be scheduled.

Once your campers are in bed for the night, your duties may not be finished. Some camp counselors need to be on duty to make sure the campers are safe and in their beds. If an emergency arises in the night, the camp counselors are expected to deal with it. Depending on what is going on with your campers, you may not be able to sleep through the night.

Summer camp counselors are people that the youngsters attending the camp really look up to, and if you are considering pursuing this type of work, you will be expected to refrain from consuming alcohol on camp property. It stands to reason that if you are under the influence of alcohol, your judgment may be impaired. You need to have a clear head when you are responsible for the safety of a group of children.

Smoking in front of the campers is also not considered appropriate for summer camp counselors. The camp director may prefer to hire nonsmokers as counselors. If you do smoke, you will likely have to agree not to light up while on duty.
